Music has always been a major part of Dave Field's life. Growing up in Southern California, he played on the family piano, picking out tunes by ear, and creating chords to accompany himself. He started creating vocal harmonies at age 7, and sang in choirs throughout his school career. He inherited his first guitar at age 14, and taught himself to play using a chord book. Other instruments followed.

He began composing in college, when he discovered the therapeutic power of songwriting following a romantic setback.

Field now performs at restaurants and retirement and nursing homes around his home in Santa Cruz, CA, as a soloist and as a member of the Field and English Band and Kane Field. He has a son, Adam, who performs with the Field and English Band when his busy schedule allows.
